What is transfer duty and who is responsible for paying it?

Transfer duty, formerly stamp duty, is a State Government tax calculated on the value of the property. The buyer pays it.

You may be eligible for a reduced rate if you are a first home buyer or you are buying a home to live in yourself. You can work out what your duty will be with the instant quote calculator.

Your contract must be lodged with RevenueWA for assessment within two months of the date the liability arises. A late lodgement can attract a penalty. Your settlement representative lodges it as part of your settlement.
