What does it mean for a contract to be “unconditional”?

A contract is unconditional once every condition in it has been satisfied. In practice that usually means finance has been approved and any building or timber pest inspection conditions have been dealt with.

It matters because until then either party may have a way out. Afterwards the contract must be completed. From that point the work is preparing for settlement rather than waiting on conditions.

See Buying or selling subject to finance in WA.
